New Jersey: The State of Research

New Jersey is The State of Research, and everyone is a stakeholder in the ongoing search for ways to prevent, treat and even cure diseases that affect people and animals.

A Research!America public opinion poll shows that medical research is a high priority for New Jersey residents.

Although great strides have been made in biology, much more is known about calculating how to put a satellite into orbit around a distant planet than about calculating what a new drug or chemical will do in our bodies. Research scientists are just learning to navigate the tiny universe of the molecule. They are always exploring new territory, probing at the edge of knowledge about the body's inner space, always with the goal of improving our health and assuring our safety. Will a new compound kill cancer cells? What does it do to healthy tissues? Could this medicine harm an unborn child? How will this chemical affect our environment?

To answer these questions, learn about life processes, health and disease, and, ultimately, protect human and animal life, researchers weave together combinations of tests that provide the best scientific information.

This area of NJABR's web site provides an overview of the options currently available to scientists in biomedical research, testing and teaching, and shows how they continue to seek ways to reduce and/or refine the laboratory animal role while advancing human health and consumer and workplace safety.
