Ann M. Stock, Ph.D.Professor, Department of Biochemistry, UMDNJ RWJMS Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine A Research Institute at Rutgers University and UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School
"As a cancer survivor, my personal perspective on the importance of biomedical research is easy to summarize: without the advances of biomedical research, I would not be here today. As a researcher, I am excited to be working at a time in which a variety of powerful tools are enabling increasingly rapid progress. The sequence of the human genome has accelerated the determination of the specific molecular basis of diseases and promises the potential for development and implementation of customized drugs with increased efficacy and reduced side effects. Amidst the excitement of being able to derive direct benefits from biomedical research, it is important not to neglect the support of basic research, an endeavor that has historically produced a wealth of unexpected advances with enormous impact." Dr. Ann Stock's research is directed toward understanding the molecular mechanisms of receptor-mediated signal transduction. In particular, her research focuses on elucidating structure/function relationships in proteins involved in information processing using a combination of molecular genetic, biochemical and X-ray crystallographic methods and on investigating the role of covalent modifications of proteins in signaling pathways. An Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and a Member of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, Dr. Stock holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. © 1999-2005 New Jersey Association for Biomedical Research 1477 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ 07083 Ph: (908) 964-9449 Fax: (908) 964-9144 info@njabr.org |
