Crystal Ball Award: Elizabeth Szamreta![]() With just the right combination of science and Girl Scout ingenuity, you get the "Sisterhood of Science"...Elizabeth Szamreta's Girl Scout Gold Award project. Szamreta, a junior at Sayreville War Memorial High School... created "The Sisterhood of Science" workshops to teach girls everything from engineering concepts to the science of fingerprinting... "To want to be what one can be is purpose in life." NJABR is delighted to recognize Sayreville War Memorial High School senior Elizabeth Anne Szamreta, creator of "The Sisterhood of Science," and winner of the prestigious Rensselaer Medal. A family tradition - her Dad received the same award thirty years ago - the Rensselaer Medal is presented by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for excelling in math and science. "The Sisterhood of Science" project was developed to fulfill the requirements of a Girl Scout badge called "Making It Matter." Elizabeth, the President of her high school's Science Club, designed the month-long program for fourth-grade girls at Dwight D. Eisenhower School, hoping to inspire future Outstanding New Jersey Women in Research! A member of the Library Council, the Spanish Club, Future Business Leaders of America and the Teen Institute of the Garden State, Elizabeth is also an avid tennis player and an accomplished violinist. She hopes to combine biology and chemistry as her college major, with a career as a pharmacist a distinct possibility. Elizabeth's dreams for the future include working as a scientist, doing research, and making a powerful discovery. We have every confidence that she will succeed! top © 1999-2005 New Jersey Association for Biomedical Research 1477 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ 07083 Ph: (908) 964-9449 Fax: (908) 964-9144 info@njabr.org |
