Satwant Kaur Narula, Ph.D.

Vice President, Inflammation & Infection, Schering-Plough Research Institute

Satwant Kaur Narula, Ph.D.

"From a scientific point of view this is a very exciting time to be involved in Biomedical Research. The vast amount of biological information unravelled by genomics approaches holds enormous promise for elucidating the causes and pathogenesis of various diseases. Biomedical Research becomes all the more important if we are to understand these diseases more thoroughly and apply this knowledge towards discovering novel therapies for human and animal medical needs."

Dr. Satwant Narula has been making significant contributions to the field of Molecular Biology since 1979, when she received her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Madurai University, India. Her major career focus has been on new Drug Discovery and Development and she has a notable track record - and a unique expertise - in progressing both biological drugs (Cytokines and Antibodies) and small molecule therapeutics into the Clinic. As a Vice President at Schering-Plough Research Institute, Dr. Narula has operational and budgetary responsibilities for managing a Research Team of 46 individuals.

Dr. Narula is a sought-after lecturer, the recipient of numerous honors, including the 1991 TWIN (Tribute to Women and Industry) Award, and the author of more than 90 articles.
