Ambassador For Scientific Research: Ronald H. Rockland, Ph.D.

Associate Dean, Associate Professor
Engineering Technology/ Biomedical Engineering Department
Newark Institute of Technology

Ronald H. Rockland is a nationally recognized biomedical engineer and educator. "Since 2002, Dr. Rockland has done an exemplary job of outreach to high school students who are interested in careers in either biomedical engineering or biotechnology," noted Judith Sheft, Assistant Vice-President, Technology Development at NJIT. "His presentations to students and parents in specialized high school programs throughout New Jersey incorporate his educational, research and industrial background in biomedical engineering. In addition, Dr. Rockland has coordinated specialized outreach programs for this group for both national and state biomedical engineering conferences."

Dr. Rockland received bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering and a doctorate in Biomedical Engineering from New York University; he also holds an MBA from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minnesota. Prior to joining NJIT, he worked for almost 25 years in research, engineering, marketing and sales management with several high technology corporations, including Medtronic, Inc., the leading pacemaker company, and Scientific Atlanta. Dr. Rockland is a holder of five patents in the pacemaker area, and has published more than 40 journal and conference papers, primarily in the medical and educational fields.

"It is exciting that NJIT is willing to share you with the rest of the bioscience community," said Jayne Mackta, NJABR president. "We are so pleased to celebrate your many contributions to promoting public understanding of biomedical research. "

"This is a very important award for me. As a biomedical engineer, I believe that this field over the last 20 years has provided tremendous advances in healthcare. As an educator, I want to help share these experiences with students, so they can under the importance of going into a biomedical related field."
