Delaney Conklin - Grade 2 Memorial School, Cinnaminson: Finalist - Grades 1-3Roxanne Maloney ConklinBy Delaney Conklin - Grade 2Memorial School, Cinnnaminson My dog Roxanne is getting very old, She is 98 in people years, or so I am told. Roxy is gentle and sweet and would never bite; She has big brown eyes and fur that's snow white. We have been best friends since the day I was born, And when I leave for school, she seems very forlorn. She sleeps in the den while I am away at school, And then rushes to greet me, which is SO, SO cool. Wagging her tail and jumping up on my knees, Sometimes she gets me muddy, which is OK by me. If I could, Roxy would sleep on my bed, But "She's much too old", my mother said. "She's much better off on the rug instead". So she sleeps on the floor beside my bed. Her eyes are bad and she's going deaf, But she still has that stinky dog breath. I wish Roxy's legs would feel good again, And she could chase the ball now and then. But my mother says, "Let her rest", and I will, Because when she gets tired, I love her still. I know one day soon Roxy will go to heaven But I hope it's not until I'm at least seven. But no matter when we will be apart, Roxy will always and forever be in my heart. © 1999-2005 New Jersey Association for Biomedical Research 1477 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ 07083 Ph: (908) 964-9449 Fax: (908) 964-9144 info@njabr.org |
